Getting to Portmeirion

Posted on July 21, 2026July 30, 2026 by Liz Collins

So, you want to get to Portmeirion. There are several ways to arrive safely and soundly at Mekonvillage and if you are not used to our arcane ways of travel in the UK then these ideas might help.

Let us start with the ‘easy’ one first. Driving. If you are driving, we suggest you click here and create your own road trip by using this bespoke Google Map: https://tinyurl.com/mekonvillage Portmeirion is signposted from the A487 at Minffordd mid-way between Penrhyndeudraeth and Porthmadog in Gwynedd, North Wales. For those who actually trust Sat Nav use the post code is LL48 6ER. Large scale road maps are also available from all good stores for those over 65 (me!)

Next you can try a train and possibly a bus. The two nodal points are Shrewsbury and Bangor. You can reach Shrewsbury from London, Birmingham and even Manchester. From Shrewsbury trains run to Minffordd which is about a mile and a half from Portmeirion. Full details on-line at https://tfw.wales/ . From Bangor railway station, the easiest way is to catch the T2 bus run by Lloyds Coaches. The time table is here: https://lloydscoaches.com it may be updated for the Autumn. Currently it can be viewed as a PDF here: https://tinyurl.com/mekonvillagebus

For those not up to a hike from Minffordd to Portmeirion, local taxis can be booked from Ralio Rownd  07950 176 551 Raliorownd@hotmail.com https://www.facebook.com/ralio.rownd and Dukes Taxi 01766 514 799 http://www.taxidukestacsi.co.uk/ (they have one of those new-fangled app things on their website).

Cyclists? No doubt you will explain your route in a long and extremely detailed, but interesting, blog piece before you leave Leeds. Hopefully one of the self propelled two wheeled fraterninty will provide me with a link and an appropriate picture. Meanwhile is a scrape of a map I found in a Charity Shop in Newport:
